Thomas Nelligan concentrates his practice on litigation and providing counsel to municipalities regarding a wide range of issues including general matters, the Freedom of Information Act, and code enforcement. Prior to joining Peterson, Johnson & Murray Chicago LLC., Mr. Nelligan served as an Assistant State’s Attorney for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and as an Assistant General Counsel for the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
During his time as an Assistant State’s Attorney, Mr. Nelligan served as a criminal prosecutor representing the citizens of Cook County. He gained valuable litigation experience when he conducted over 100 bench trials on behalf of the state. He also tried several matters to jury verdict.
While with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Mr. Nelligan provided counsel on a variety of matters, including labor, employment, and policy matters. In addition to representing the Sheriff’s Office in labor arbitrations and labor negotiations, Mr. Nelligan also represented the Sheriff’s before the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Cook County Sheriff’s Merit Board. Mr. Nelligan also continued to act in a prosecutorial role, serving as a prosecutor in administrative hearings involving citations issued by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office Police Department.
